The basic human rights of Access to medical care is one. Although people buy medicine, medical advice in exchange of money. However, this treatment is one of the five basic human rights. How fundamental is medical gold deer to our survival – that is the fundamental question of all at present.
Apart from the socio-economic context of Bangladesh, due to several reasons, this fundamental right of the people has not been fulfilled even today. If the government and semi-government development organizations and NGOs do not come forward with a spirit of simultaneous service in this regard, it is doubtful whether it will be possible to ensure medical care for all. Because there is a shortage of sufficient doctors, skilled nurses and specialist doctors in our country to ensure medical care. Also, our ignorance increases the suffering of patients several times. There are also many educated people, who do not know – which is the specialized hospital for any disease and its location or where. I am not saying that everyone should be a MLFF degree holder. But everyone is bound to accept that health awareness, knowledge of first aid, knowledge of which hospital specializes in which disease and its location can save a lot of suffering. This knowledge can undoubtedly save many precious lives.
Many accidents happen around us or on the way. It is the duty of a good citizen to stand by the side of these unfortunate people. However, standing by this side is correct only if it is sincere and has first aid knowledge. First aid is to facilitate the recovery of the injured or affected person until the arrival of the doctor and to prevent the deterioration of the condition.
Therefore, it is very important to provide basic education and awareness of medical care among the general public through special education. If we talk about Dhaka Medical College Hospital, many new patients are coming here every day, both ignorant and knowledgeable people can be found to help the patients. They will also take you to a nearby healing center. The problem starts from then. It is a national character of ours that we are sincere in the interests of others until they are connected with our own interests. And that’s why the problem starts – because the next step is someone’s interest.
Some notable allegations which have been made since long ago are that wardboys and nannies work as nurses and doctors in various hospitals, resulting in many accidents. This kind of work endangering people’s lives is seen not only in government hospitals, but in private hospitals it is even worse.
Horrible incidents like the death of a patient occur while performing a throat operation in a private hospital. The same Instoman can also be used in more than one patient without any type of vial. Still these irregularities are not stopped. In case of any major accident, the accused hospital is closed for some time. After a few days, all the activities of the hospital were resumed as usual.
Recommendations to solve the problem
1. Avoid traditional methods of treating all complex diseases with the same doctor.
2. Ensuring proper delivery and distribution of government medicines.
3. Provision of promotion of doctors according to their age and qualification.
4. Appointment of at least one public relations officer in each healing center.
5. It is urgent to establish quality medical colleges and nursing institutes in the country as per the need. From where the doctor-nurse will come out who will be able to meet the shortage of doctor-nurse in our country.
6. A change in management should be made.
7. To provide more facilities to doctors located at district, upazila, village level as compared to city.
8. Provision of adequate number of doctors-nurses and medical equipment in each treatment center.
9. To make every doctor an expert by imparting FCPS and advanced training in the respective subject.
10. Close monitoring of each treatment center from Civil Surgeon Office. Which is easily possible with modern technology.
11. People who run hospitals should be banned from taking medical treatment outside the country.
12. Ironic though it may seem, every public representative and government officer in the area should be made compulsory to seek treatment from local government treatment centers.
13. In a hospital, from patients to doctors, nurses, wardboys, everyone has to take care of the facilities and ensure service.
14. A manager should have the skills to plan and oversee how and where the allocated budget for a health care institution or the entire health sector should be spent.
15. There should be accountability. If the work is not done properly according to the plan, there should be an environment of accountability. Managers must be held accountable for any lapses in performance, just as they are empowered.
16. Doctors must ensure safety. Exemplary punishment should be provided to those who raise their hands on the doctor. Apart from this, doctors should be given proper training to enhance their communication skills with patients.
If we talk about the environment around Dhaka, the location of drug addicts can be seen around Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Where drugs, gloves, canola, syringes etc. equipment are openly arranged and bought and sold is going on.
This should also be looked at why this is happening! And where is the end! What is the solution? The surroundings of every hospital should be kept clean. Patients have to bear the clutches of brokers in and out of government hospitals.
Outside drug company representatives private hospitals are expensive which is difficult for common people, but here too there is no escape from the hands of drug company representatives, it seems that business is important here, not service.
Patients who come for service are asking questions
Doctors on duty and its managers do not see this profession as a noble profession? It is natural to take honor with service; But how do you keep the child, the patient, like interest merchants! This society, this country can not demand anything from you? Do you have any responsibility? Many of the patients admit to suffering in various ways and blame this management. They come out and abuse this country, the system of the country, everyone associated with the hospital.
A suffering patient’s statement , We feel ashamed when we see people who talk all year round that their treatment center is world class but can’t trust their own hospital when getting their health care. Run abroad. Do they not feel ashamed when they charge more than foreign hospitals? But they are not confident about the quality of service. We want to know how thick their skin is. Medicine is not a service to them, but a business.
Access to health or medical care is a fundamental right of a citizen. Government’s responsibility is to ensure healthcare. Patients come to the government-run treatment centers mainly expecting free quality treatment. This government hospital is the last refuge of poor patients. And so there is a need for a radical change in the healthcare sector through modern planning and management.
